Open Source Guitar Hero Clone

This is a great open source game that I have come across called frets on Fire or FoF, in the same way as Guitar Hero, FoF allows you to rock out your favorite songs in the comfort of a game where skill is not as big of an issue as playing a real Guitar. Believe me I know I can play this game but cant play a guitar to save myself.



FoF is available for Windows, Mac and Linux via Sourceforge and is released under the GPL. This game is great with all of the songs from Guitar Hero 1 and 2 songs as well as a built in Song Editor allowing you to take any track and turn it into a song that can be played on FoF.



The default controller is the Keyboard with the fet buttons be F keys 1-5 and using return as the strum key. This is great as you do not have to go off and buy an expensive guitar to play the game just pick up your Keyboard put on some leather pants and ROCK.

Though saying that if you have a PS2 Guitar Hero guitar there is a simple tutorial on www.fretsonfire.net a fan site for FoF, which you can see here. There is also a video bellow of how you can DIY a guitar for FoF using a toy guitar and an Xbox controller that seemed to work in the video. There are also other makers of guitars for Guitar hero and I am sure there may be ways to make these work. Also there may be a simple ay to make the range of wireless guitars for GH3 work but we all will have to wait for.

DEFAULT CONTROLS:


FoF is written in Python using the PyGame engine which make the game so easy to port to differnt operating systems. This allows some clever ways for this application to be used. I myself will be adding this to my MythTV Box that I am building for my Lounge Room TV.
